  • Online vs. Offline Retailer Sales Trends in Australia

    Australian sales trends have had their ups and downs over the past year. There has been much speculation over whether online sales are cutting into the traditional, or offline sales, and this report  sheds some light into the differences. 2012 was a year of fluctuations for online retail, with growth peaking near 30% in February then dropping to below 20% in April, before recovering to 25% in July. The last recorded data from NAB’s Online Retail Sales Index, collected in October; growth was steady at 26%.     A study of 50,000 Australian Internet users and the accompanying infographic has shown considerable light on how Australians view and use Facebook and its upstart rival, Pinterest. According to the study: Pinterest drives more sales than Facebook. Pinterest was said to have influenced 10 percent of sales, versus 7 percent for Facebook. But, Pinterest users are not as engaged as Facebook users, which might have something to do with the shorter time Pinterest has been around so its users have not developed as much of a habit of posting as Facebook users.
