Healthy Eating Plays Large Role in New Aussie Retail Campaigns

Two retail market giants in Australia, Coles and Woolworths both announced similar healthy eating campaigns earlier this month. Both retailers recruited world famous chefs as part of their marketing efforts to get the message across to Australians that their respective stores are where to get the freshest, healthiest, and sustainable food products in the country. Appealing to the growing trends toward healthy cooking, these two stores are incorporating innovative marketing techniques into their campaigns while also improving the quality of food offered in their stores.

Coles first announced its partnership with internationally renowned chef Heston Blumenthal, whom they brought on board as a consultant to help reinforce their commitment at Coles to pushing the boundaries of food innovation. MarketingMag  reported that Coles marketing and store development director Simon McDowell says, “As one of the world’s best chefs, Heston was the perfect choice for Coles and we’re delighted to be working together to bring the most outstanding food to our customers.” Chef Blumenthal’s role in the partnership is to explore the flavours and tastes of Australia while incorporating indigenous ingredients into the food choices that the company will be offering.

Only a few days after Coles’ announcement, Woolworths announced  its partnership with Chef Jaime Oliver, known around the world for healthy and sustainable cooking practices. As part of the deal, Woolworths will be phasing out all caged whole eggs sold in their stores by 2018 and by next year they will be removing all chicken products that do not meet the RSPCA processing standards. In a statement released this morning Woolworths says, “The partnership will focus on bringing better, healthier, affordable fresh food to life for everyday Australians, giving them the information and confidence to prepare great tasting fresh meals at home.” Woolworths managing director, Tjeerd Jegen, says he’s looking forward to working with Australia’s favourite chef and cook book author. “This partnership is a natural fit – Jamie is world famous for his passion for fresh food, and Woolworths is Australia’s fresh food people.
