CES (Consumer Electronics Show) 2014 Trends to Watch

Las Vegas is hosting the annual Consumer Electronics Show in the USA this week. It is one of the largest and most popular conference and exhibition shows in the world. This year, over 3,000 exhibitors have the latest and greatest innovations in electronics on display and on topic this week. Every year, CES, features the biggest new trends in technology. CES is a combination of information and learning conference, press centre, and exhibit floor.

Here are Four Trends to Look for at CES:

  1. Wearable technology. Everywhere you look at CES there is new wearable tech innovations. These devices are trending and becoming more main stream. We are not quite at the point of augmented reality tech, like the famous Google Glass. Most of the wearable technology gadgets making a scene at CES are fitness related. Bracelets that monitor heart rates, steps, and other vitals during exercising are all available. However, not all wearable tech is fitness related. Get in fashion with Bluetooth jewellery. The trend this year will be for these devices to get smarter and more interactive.
  2. Smart Home Technology. Most major communications, technology, and security companies are all coming out with smart home automation technology. Look for this trend to increase in 2014. Even if your entire home is not fitted with automation technology, then certain devices, such as appliances and lighting fixtures will still be hooked up via applications on your mobile device. The purpose behind smart home technology is being able to control features of your home while you are away. Features include: live stream cameras, lighting, locks, temperature control, and television recording to name a few.
  3. Smaller Mobile Devices. It’s no secret that mobile devices and computers have been getting smaller all along. Now with powerful computers that switch to tablets, small does not mean slow, and it also doesn’t mean more expensive either. The trend for 2014 will be for smaller devices that cost less. The new smart watch is one such small device that will gain in popularity this year. In fact, the small devices are getting even smarter and more innovative, take for example, this new smartphone has a germ killing screen.
  4. 3D Printers. The tech world has been talking about 3D printers for a while now. However, as the prices come down and innovation is spurred, look for more commerce from 3D printer creations. Consumer based 3D printer usage is not quite there yet, as ZDNet points out, but production companies and e-commerce companies will see a rise in the practicality of 3D printing in 2014.
