If you have been reluctant to run contests and special promotions on Facebook because of all the special rules and strict regulations they had, you will be glad to know that they lifted the restrictions they previously enforced. In the past, you had to use an application to run contests and you could not post contests on your wall or timeline.

Now that the restrictions have been removed, it is much easier to run contests on Facebook and take advantage of being able to quickly and easily run contests without restrictions. Facebook announced the contest rules change at the end of August.

These are some of the examples Facebook gave for the types of contests and promotions businesses can now run:

  • Collect entries by having users post on the Page or comment/like a Page post
  • Collect entries by having users message the Page
  • Utilize likes as a voting mechanism
  • Ask for new product names

These tactics cannot be used:

  • Do not administer contests on personal walls
  • Do not ask people to tag themselves in a picture that is not of them.

These more relaxed rules make it much easier to run contests on Facebook. Do you plan on taking advantage of these new guidelines? If you are still wondering about guidelines, refer to Facebook Page Terms.
