Facebook’s Latest Changes: Takeaways for Businesses

Facebook is known for making changes. The last week or so is no exception with many significant changes that were made to the social network. Today we wanted to discuss how those changes can affect your business page so that you can stay on top of the changes to get the post out of the posts for your business.

Here are the details on recent Facebook changes:

Hashtags: As you probably know hashtags were made famous on Twitter and are an excellent way to capitalize on trending topics. Using the pound sign (#) in front of a keyword makes that keyword searchable throughout Facebook.  It is a great way to capitalize on trending topics and to show up when people are interested in keywords related to your product, service, or brand.

Sponsored Results Phased Out: In an effort to be more streamlined in the advertising choices they offer advertisers, the network is going to be removing sponsored search results.

Edit Images When Sharing a Post: Images are a very important part of Facebook and definitely attract more attention in the form of likes, comments and shares. Up until now, when sharing a link or a post, users were stuck with whatever image Facebook pulled in from the page. Now, Facebook is allowing users to upload their own image to better represent the post and attract that much needed attention.

Images in Comments: To further impress upon the importance of images on Facebook, another very recent change is that Facebook now allows users to upload an image as a comment alone or in addition to text. A little camera image shows up for you to click on.

Organization of Comments: To further organize comments, and especially great for long comment threads, Facebook has incorporated replies to comments and now lets users organize comment strings by top comments or recent activity.

Of course, when using Facebook for business it is important to not only stay on top of the latest changes, but also use best practices. One of the important things is remembering that Facebook is a social network and businesses need to be social on it. Those businesses that are more human  on the channel are more successful.

Just when you think you are on top of all the latest changes, more are coming down the pipeline. Facebook has called a press conference for Thursday (20 June 2013) LA time. So stay tuned  for the latest changes.
