Schema.org Adds Logo Ability to Enhance Branding Opportunities

Two years ago Google, Bing and Yahoo announced that they were going to work together towards a standardized coding markup language called Schema. The reason behind Schema.org is so that webmasters can code information into their websites to let the search engines know what the intent of words and websites are. Schema can help with Google’s Knowledge Graph search, in other words determining the difference between apple the fruit and Apple the technology company.  The big news today and for those of us in the branding world is that Google announced this week that Schema will now support company logos. This is a great advance for branding ability. Search Engine Watch explains, “The logo designation is part of the Organization markup within schema.org. Using it will allow Google algorithms to understand which image on your server is your preferred logo. If you used such a file on your home page, you can designate it directly from the same IMG tag you use on your site.” In addition to branding, having your company logo show up alongside you search engine rankings will be a great way to make your listings show up.
