A series of studies have put some numbers to Australian love for the Internet and online shopping. The full version can be found by clicking the thumbnail above, but here are the highlights:

  • 94 percent of the Australian population has access to the Internet. Eighty percent said they log on at least once a day, but 60 percent visit multiple times a day.
  • Facebook leads Australian “likes,” with more than 10 million users, but note: the most popular Website still boasts but a fraction of the Internet using audience. From there, Twitter has 1.8 million followers, LinkedIn 2.2 million, and Tumblr more than one million, while Pinterest is gaining ground with 500,000 visitors.
  • Men spend nine minutes more online a month than women do.
  • Next year, Australians are expected to spend $37 billion online.
  • Travel, music, clothes and computers are the most popular online products.

Obviously, online shopping is going to be mega-trend in Australia, and businesses and marketers should position themselves to take advantage.
